Wednesday 17th January is traditionally Wassail night at the Butchers Arms in Carhampton and I shall be there to play some folk tunes in the bar with (hopefully) a load of other traditional folk musicians, but why have people been doing this for so many years?

Welcome to my blog about tradition and traditions in the UK West Country featuring music, dance, art and craft.
In this weblog, I will post stories, articles, information and discussion about traditions of all kinds in music, dance, art and crafts relating to the West of England, UK, including specifically Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
Great Britain still has a thriving culture of tradition that goes back hundreds of years and traditions are being revived and reinvigorated all the time.
I hope that this web-log will help to keep traditions of all kinds in people’s lives and people’s minds which means that it is a living tradition.
